CRAFTSMANSHIP - HIGHLY COMMENDED

DUKE OF YORK'S HEADQUARTERS, LONDON

Copper Contractor: T+P Lead Roofing
Architect: London Bloc Architects with Paul Davis & Partners
Main Contractor: Laing O'Rourke Group
Client: Cadogan Estate

Considered to be the jewel in the crown of a major redevelopment, this building is defined by continuous glazing to all sides, surmounted by three levels of shallow pitched copper roofing. Detailed design around concealed gutters gives each roof a visual lift, followed by wider sheets with double lock welts forming a skirt with an extremely fine overhanging edge. Bespoke copper louvres manufactured from 1.5 and 2mm thick copper are used between upper and lower roof levels.

The judges considered all the work to have been carried out with great attention to detail with trays at each level matching each other. Even joints in the top ridges align with roof tray and gutter upstand seams.
