CRAFTSMANSHIP - HIGHLY COMMENDED
AWARDS 10

HOUNSLOW EAST STATION, LONDON

Copper Contractor: Broderick Structures
Architect: Acanthus Lawrence & Wrightson
Main Contractor: Gleeson MCL
Client: Infraco JNP

A dramatic copper roof acts as a unifying element swooping down from a high level platform to the street entrance of this station reconstruction. The architects sought a diamond pattern across the curving roof form, requiring precise setting-out to achieve the required aesthetic which uses the traditional system with cross welts. Edge details include concealed gutters, bullnose eaves and copper clad soffits giving continuity to the curved roof plane.

The judges recognised the real challenges in setting-out and execution of this complex curved roof and its success in making an individual and distinctive architectural statement.
