JERSEY COLLEGE FOR GIRLS

Architect: Architecture plb

Contractor: Varla (UK)

Main Contractor: Charles Le Quesne (1956)

Owner: Jersey College for Girls

This new campus makes extensive use of copper cladding on a variety of interesting building forms.  In particular, the Dining Hall provides a central focus with a leaf shaped elliptical copper roof, split by a central valley gutter which terminates in a distinctive copper overflow chute.  Elsewhere on the campus, copper cladding has also been applied to vertical facades and a lift shaft drum.

The project was selected for an award because of the diversity of shapes and forms which are entirely appropriate for copper cladding.   The judges were also impressed with the detailing skills shown in the translation of initial design concepts to the completed buildings.time.
